How Long Does a Heater Last?
The average heater will last for around 10-15 years. Some systems like radiant heaters are known to last longer. But no matter what type of heater you have, as you near that 15-year mark it’s time to begin considering an upgrade.
Even if you have a heater that is going strong and working very well, older models can like the efficiency of more modern heaters. Even though we’re talking about heating as we head into the winter season, it’s good to know that the same thing is true of central air conditioners.
Why Is My Heater Loud During Operation?
Has your heater always been loud, or is this a new development? If your heater has been loud since day one, then it may have been the incorrect size when it first got installed. A heater that is bigger than the space that it needs to warm up has more power than is necessary and thus sounds louder during a heating cycle.
However, if loud noises are a new development for your heater, then there may be some kind of malfunction to blame. For example, a booming sound in a gas furnace can point to problems with ignition. A grinding sound can mean that there is a lack of lubrication preventing your heater from operating smoothly. No matter what unusual sound you hear, you can give our team a call and we can troubleshoot to figure out exactly what is wrong.
Why Are My Heating Costs So High?
If it seems like your energy bills are higher this year than they were last year, there could be a couple of factors to blame. If you’ve changed your thermostat, setting changes may be costing you more money compared to last year.
You may not think that setting your heater a degree or too higher is that big of a deal, but a single degree can increase your monthly energy cost by 3% or more. Setting your thermostat a few degrees higher can easily increase your energy costs by 10%. This is especially true if you are setting your thermostat higher when it is colder outside.
However, if you haven’t made any changes to your thermostat settings then your heater may be malfunctioning. An inefficiency inside the system could be causing your heater to work harder than it usually does to heat your home. In this case, our goal is to help you balance out your energy costs again.
Why is My Heater Rusty?
Rust is a major red flag for your heater. Rust means that moisture is persistently in or around your system and allows corrosion. Once rust begins, our team cannot do anything to reverse the damage. If individual components are rusting, we can replace those before the rust spreads to the rest of your system. Aside from addressing the rust, we also need to pinpoint the reason for the moisture buildup so that we can fix that issue and prevent future corrosion.
